• In der österreichischen Literatur entwickelte sich zu Beginn des 19. Jahrhundertskeine literarische Bewegung, die mit der deutschen Romantik vergleichbar wäre. Der Aufenthalt und ausgedehnte Tätigkeiten vieler deutscher Romantiker in Wien jedoch hatten Auswirkungen auf das geistig-kulturelle und literarische Leben in Österreich und führten zu heftigen Debatten und wortgewaltigen Polemiken in der literarischen und journalistischen Szene. Die Aufklärungspostulate hatten in Wien Prämissen gesetzt, die das kulturelle Leben der österreichischen Länder bis weit in das 19. Jahrhundert hinein stark beeinflussten.
• The Romanticism in the history of German literature was an artistic movement which had its own literary programme and several stages. We can speak about the similar literary programme with respect to Austrian literature. However, the staying in Vienna and many activities of several German representative of Romanticism (the Schlegel brothers, Ludwig Tieck, Joseph von Eichendorff, Clemens Brentano, and others) resulted in the fact that the ideas of Romanticism were disseminated in Vienna too. The representatives of Later Enlightenment (Joseph Franz Ratschky, Joseph Schreyvogel, and others) resisted the literary opinions and the literary works of art of German romanticists and refused their literary style. The article deals with the literary dispute between the German representatives of Romanticism and the representatives of Enlightenment at the beginning of 19th century.
