Abstract: This thesis deals with the technical and economical evaluation of the polymer-electrolytemembraneelectrolysis, which can be used to produce regenerative hydrogen. The primary goalof this work is to determine the potential specific prime costs of this technology in acomprehensible manner. To achieve this goal, the design of a polymer-electrolyte-membrane electrolyser, which consistsof one or more stacks and the corresponding periphery, is discussed. The stack - a stack formsthe core of a polymer-electrolyte-membrane electrolyser - is analyzed in detail in terms ofdesign, material and production technology and then evaluated in terms of costs. In addition toexisting design concepts from the literature (conservative), potential alternatives (innovative) tothese are also discussed. For the subsequent cost assessment, a production model isdeveloped in this thesis, with the help of which the cost of a stack can be calculated. Data fromthe analysis of the required materials, the material costs, and the production parameters flowinto this cost model for calculating the prime costs. For the cost calculation of the peripheral components of the polymer-electrolyte-membraneelectrolyser, an existing cost estimation method from the chemical industry is used. This is acost function method that can be used if the peripheral components are designed according tothe operating conditions. The cost estimate of the power electronics was made in the context ofan expert discussion. With the help of the stack cost model and the cost model for the peripheral components, thespecific prime costs of technically relevant/selected system configurations were determined inthis thesis. In addition to the prime costs, possible sales prices for the entire system aredetermined as part of the work. These sales prices include installation costs, costs for auxiliaryequipment, costs as a result of unforeseen events, possible margins, taxes and the costs ofplant operation in the first few months and are referred to as Total Capital Investments in thework.A comparison of the cost values in this work for the investigated system configurations (watersupply of anode and cathode as well as exclusive water supply to the cathode at differentpressures) at an operating point of 1.7 V and 2.25 A·cm-2 resulted in a cost range between 160and 270 euros per kilowatt of electrical system input power (€/kWe).
