Between Games and Politics. Participation In the Art As Strategy and Practice
Was meint partizipatorische, was partizipative Kunst? - 'Participation' - what concepts and practices does this term refer to concerning the arts? What does 'participatory' what does 'participative' art mean? Is it a game, is it politics - or is it both of it? Starting with a definition and a history of the very term 'participation' in the art field, the thesis in 'part II: genesis' and 'part III: typology' collects, analyses and structures different types of participatory art projects and its discourses. Five detailed case studies of works by Christine and Irene Hohenbüchler, Tobias Rehberger, Park Fiction, Carsten Höller und Andrea Knobloch serve to develop and validate criteria to identify different types of partizipation in art. In the final chapter 'participation - is it the new aesthetic paradigma?' limits and potentials of different types of participation with regard to contemporary art practice are being discussed. This first volume consisting of analyses, contexts and evaluations is followed by a second volume called 'compilation' which comprises 252 participatory art projects'Participation' - what concepts and practices does this term refer to concerning the arts?
