  • The Gentiano pneumonanthis-Molinietum litoralis, an association of submediterran-subcontinental distribution tendency, reported by Ilijanic (1968) from NE Croatia, occurs also in S Moravia and in the Záhorie lowland (SW Slovakia). In S Moravia most localities are situated in the alluvium of the Dyje river, near its mouth into the Morava, while in SW Slovakia they are situated in the alluvium of the Morava (sea levels: 154 to 147 m down stream). The floristic composition of the association given in Tab. 1 corresponds with its classification into the Molinion and Molinietalia. The presence of the Festuco-Brometea species, important for diagnosis (next to Fragaria viridis and Hieracium umbellatum), is in agreement with a slight influence of nutrient-poor floods on the site as well as with relatively low soil humidity. The upper soil profile is built by sand and/or sandy loam. The content of organic matter is relatively low here, so also the pH(KCl) values. The large difference between the pH(H20) and the pH(KCl) corresponds with the insufficient cation exchange capacity. The amount of avaible NPK nutrients is small while the Ca2+ and Mg2+ contents are mostly increased (Tab. 2). Al3+ is absent. According to the position of the community in the alluvium relief, three subassociations of the Gentiano-Molinietum litoralis can be distinguished: G.-M. caricetosum acutiformia subass. nova, G.-M. cnidietosum dubii Bal.-Tul. 1987 and G.-M. holoschoenetosum romani subass. nova. The association is regarded as a vicariant of the Cirsio tuberosi-Molinietum (litoralis) Oberdorfer et Philippi ex Görs 1974 described in SW Germany. Its development optimum falls in summer, when Molinia arundinacea ssp. litoralis can attain a height up to 230 cm. The appearance of its first shoots can be stunted by low air temperature during the spring.
