With regard to an expected further increase in migration movements within Europe and to Europe in the medium term, this thesis examines the economic consequences of immigration and the role that integration plays in it. In addition, existing integration monitoring systems will be presented and evaluated in order to present the integration index as a separate measure of migrant integration in Germany. The index measures the objectively measurable, structural integration on the basis of systematic differences between natives and migrants in the German microcensus. It thus responds to an important point of criticism of the current measurement of integration: Instead of presenting a large number of sub-indicators, all the information is combined into one number, which increases the significance and enables comparisons over longer periods of time with information from consistent data sources. At the end of the thesis, possible explanations for differences in measured integration between different migrant groups are presented and examined on the basis of the results.

Im Hinblick auf eine mittelfristig zu erwartende weitere Verstärkung von Migrationsbewegungen innerhalb Europas und nach Europa untersucht die vorliegende Arbeit die ökonomischen Folgen von Immigration und die Rolle, die Integration dabei spielt. Zudem werden bestehende Integrationsmonitorings vorgestellt und evaluiert um dann mit dem Integrationsindex eine eigene Maßzahl für die Migrantenintegration in Deutschland vorzustellen. Der Index misst die objektiv messbare, strukturelle Integration anhand systematischer Unterschiede von Einheimischen und Migranten im deutschen Mikrozensus. Er beantwortet damit vor allem einen wichtigen Kritikpunkt der aktuellen Integrationsmessung: Statt eine Vielzahl von Teilindikatoren zu präsentieren werden sämtliche Informationen zu einer Maßzahl zusammengefasst, was die Aussagekraft erhöht und Vergleiche über längere Zeiträume mit Informationen aus konsistenten Datenquellen ermöglicht. Zum Schluss der Arbeit werden mögliche Erklärungen für Unterschiede in der gemessenen Integration zwischen verschiedenen Migrantengruppen vorgestellt und anhand der Ergebnisse überprüft.
