This dissertation deals with several topics of energy materials. For example, a process has been established by which it is possible to grow antimony telluride, bismuth telluride and various degrees of substitution within the pseudo-binary system Sb2Te3-Bi2Te3 as epitaxial, c-oriented films and to characterize them. By developing a new reactor for physical vapor deposition with independent heating elements for the substrate and the precursor boat, parameter sets could be established to enable epitaxial growth of the tetradymites. Thin films of different thicknesses were obtained and characterized with respect to their thermal conductivity along the growth direction as well as stoichiometry, surface properties, crystallinity and partly thermoelectric properties. The high quality and low defect films showed a low thermal conductivity. By substituting the antimony telluride with bismuth telluride the thermal conductivity could be successively reduced. The samples up to 12% showed a calculable course of the measured values. With a degree of substitution of approx. 24%, the transition of the crystalline material into a phonon glass could be observed from a temperature of 170 K. Due to the low phonon propagation speed and the mean free path length of the phonons, this is shown to be an intrinsic property of (Sb1–xBix)2Te3. In the second part of the work various metal-β-ketoiminate complexes could be synthesized and characterized. From the alkali metal complexes obtained, a precursor for CVD was developed and examined for its properties and the film obtained was characterized accordingly. Six new alkali metal complexes could be synthesized and characterized. So far, the cesium structure shown is the only one reported. It shows a polymeric chain structure in the solid, which could also be confirmed by NMR spectroscopy. As an example, a platinum(II) complex was obtained from the alkali metal complexes. This complex was examined with regard to its suitability as an MOCVD precursor and compared with other common precursors. With the help of this complex, a polycrystalline, contamination-free platinum layer could be produced under moderate conditions in a vacuum.
