In this thesis, the properties of different variants of an optically pumped vertical external cavity surface emitting laser's (VECSEL) were studied. The VECSEL's were analyzed at OSRAM Opto Semiconductor GmbH in Regensburg as part of the development of a frequency-doubled green laser for mobile pico projectors. To optimize the optical efficiency of the VECSEL's the wavelength of the pump laser is adapted to the RPG.Furthermore, the dissipation of power loss could be improved by the lower thermal heat resistance of a thin film VECSEL's. In the focus of the work was the investigation of the optical gain. For this purpose a new method has been used which is based on the measurement of the reflectivity of the VECSEL semiconductor chip.
