Abstract

AbstractLanguage
In a first step, this paper explains current social conditions and their effects on adolescents, family and education. In a second step, Bröckling's "entrepreneurial self" and Illouz's "reflexive self" present two theoretical conceptions of current forms of subjectivisation, which allow to discuss the relationships between social conditions, expectations and individual social practice and to highlight possible consequences for adolescents. What is the relationship between social demands and expectations of young people and their possibilities? To answer this question, the term "wellbeing" should be discussed, because it is noticeable that categories such as quality of life, happiness, satisfaction and well-being seem to gain more and more importance. But what is meant by well-being and a multitude of synonymously used concepts and to what extent can they serve as a guideline for the assessment of individual sensitivities? What are the connections between well-being on the one hand and the forms of subjectivation presented? On the basis of the discourses about ideas and models of a "good" childhood, "good" parents and a "good education", the importance that the well-being seems to gain here is shown and critically examined. This not only raises the question of the consequences of current conditions and their effects on subjects, but also "education" - as a social practice - is discussed in relation to current social demands and expectations. Afterwards, by referring to Ehrenberg's "exhausted self" (2013) it is shown to what extent current social conditions, models and modes of subjectivation can also lead to uncertainties and crises of individuals. When positive values such as well-being or happiness are set as yardsticks for attainable (educational and subjective) goals and thus of normative quality, then the question arises as to how the attempts of the individuals to achieve these states. To what extent aspiration is not only laborious, but can always include the possibility of failure, and how to deal with it, it is important to clarify. Ultimately, possible consequences and implications arising from the presented contexts are discussed.English
