Fluvialmorphologische Untersuchungen an kleinen, naturnahen Fließgewässern

Gerinnegestalt. In Nordrhein-Westfalen fehlen quantitative, empirisch abgeleitete geomorphologische Gesetzmäßigkeiten.
  • The restoration of river channels within small catchments is hampered by the lack of important guidelines dealing with channel shape. This is especially true in North-Rhine-Westphalia, where no empirically derived geomorphological laws have been formulated so far. The aim of this investigation is to provide a statistical correlation between the major controls governing a river system and the variables describing channel morphology from observations on the fluvial geomorphology of 29 small natural rivers in North-Rhine-Westphalia. The results show several relationships, that are clear and significant. These can be used to plan the restoration of river channels in North-Rhine-Westphalia when attention is paid to the basic assumptions underlying the calculated regressions. The derivation of empirical relationships from the fluvial geomorphology of small natural rivers reveals a useful method for the cost-effective restoration of rivers to assure natural stability and minimum maintenance.
