• "Widerstände gegen Innovationen" als soziales Phänomen im Kontext der industriellen Forschung und Entwicklung stehen im Mittelpunkt dieser interdisziplinären Studie. Das Untersuchungsziel besteht grundlegend in der empirischen Deskription eines Phänomens, das mit offiziellen Unternehmensdarstellungen kaum vereinbar scheint. Insbesondere von Interesse ist ein sozialwissenschaftlicher "zweiter Blick" auf die Folgen: Widerstände sind negativ konnotiert und werden häufig als destruktiv und dysfunktional eingeschätzt - eine plausible Position, die jedoch ambivalente oder sogar positive Effekte vernachlässigt. Auch wenn der "Widerstand gegen Innovationen" in diversen wissenschaftlichen Domänen Erwähnung findet, sind nur wenige empirische Studien verfügbar. Diese Studie analysiert empirisches Datenmaterial zu 663 technologischen Innovationsprozessen, die durch eine Expertenbefragung am Institut für angewandte Innovationsforschung (An-Institut der Ruhr-Universität Bochum) rekonstruiert wurden.
• This interdisciplinary study is about the phenomenon of "resistance" to innovative ideas within corporate research and development. One aim of the study is to empirically describe a social phenomenon that seems to be incongruent with official corporate culture. More specifically, the study focuses on the effects and consequences of the negatively connotated "resistance"-phenomenon: Resistance is often perceived to be destructive or dysfunctional. While this may be true and must not be neglected, the study shifts attention towards positive functions of resistance to innovative ideas. Resistance to innovation is a popular topic in many academic disciplines, yet empirical studies are still scarce. This study uses empirical data on 663 technological innovation processes, collected in a research project by the Institute for Applied Innovation Research at the Ruhr University of Bochum.
