  • This work will focus on the continuous online-drying of transformer oil as a possibility to remove water from the transformer insulation. The oil purification shall guarantee the safe operation of a transformer. Several methods were investigated to remove water from oil. Thereto belong a simple particle filtration and thus the removal of bound water to those particles, vacuum technology and the use of adsorbents. Furthermore two models were developed, which will simulate the developing water content in the oil and in the solid insulation, if a continuous online-oil drying unit is connected to the transformer. As a result forecasts on the duration and the quality of this technique become possible. Relevant parameters of the models are the mass ratio of the insulation components, the retention time of the oil volume due to the dimension of the drying unit, the degree of purification of the oil, the mass transfer, and parameters for external and internal water sources of the transformer.
