Aluminiumnitrid-Membranen für durchstimmbare refraktive Mikrooptiken

On the one hand, the miniaturization of optical systems offers new application opportunities. On the other hand, during scaling of these systems two new challenges arise. Firstly, the transmitted information is reduced. Secondly, classical actuation approaches fail on the microscale. Here new concepts for tunable optical elements have to be found. They enable the scanning of the object, while multiple pictures are recorded. If they are stitched together, the overall transmitted information increases. Furthermore, these optical elements enable a tunable information selection. The goals of this thesis are optical microsystems for this tunable information selection. They can scan the three-dimensional object-space and offer an anamorphic zoom. Therefore, tunable spherical and cylindrical lenses as well as tunable prism are designed, fabricated and characterized. For the fabrication of these elements, nano-crystalline aluminum nitride thin films are used. Due to their elastic properties, flexible and transparent aluminum nitride membranes are suitable for liquid filled lenses. For thermomechanical actuators, aluminum nitride offers a high thermal diffusivity as well as a high energy density. This thesis presents an optimized membrane design for cylindrical lenses with a usable aperture of 3·3mm2. This corresponds to 35% of the membrane surface. For the anamorphic zoom, a hybrid integration of silicon and low temperature co-fired ceramics is used. This combines the advantages of both technologies. The anamorphic zoom consists of four cylindrical lenses and enables the individual stretching and compressing the picture height and width. The tunable prism is based on deformation of a liquid droplet. The droplet forms a wedge and the angle is tuned with a novel thermomechanical actuator. Its driving principle is based on the thermal modulation of the residual stress in aluminum nitride beams. For scanning the three-dimensional object-space, one tunable membrane lens and two perpendicular aligned tunable prisms are integrated into one optical microsystem. The tunable lens selects the object plane, which is scanned with the tunable prisms. With this system the picture information is shifted horizontally (15 %) and moved vertically (30 % with respect to the sensor area). This corresponds to an information increase of 50 %.
