  • We examined the diaplacental transport of 25 amino acids in rats with induced folic acid and vitamin B6 deficiency. For this we examined the amino acid concentration in the maternal blood plasm and in the amniotic fluid at the days 14, 16 and 20 of gestation. We found a significantly higher fetomaternal ratio in the group with vitamin B6 restriction for the amino acids glycine, citrulline, ornithine and lower ratios for threonine and cystathionine. In the group with induced deficiency of folic acid we found a significantly lower fetomaternal ratio for the amino acids threonine, serine, asparagine, glutamic acid, proline, butyrate, methionine, isoleucine, histidine and arginine. The ratios for glutamine, glycine and ornithine were significantly higher in the group with folic acid restriction. There seems to be more glycogen around fetal blood vessels in placentae of the vitamin B6 restriction group. In the group with vitamin B6 restriction we found a significantly higher rate of resorptions of fetuses than in the control group.
