Studies on the removal of human topoisomerase I cleavage complexes in vitro and the involvement of the tumor suppressor protein p53

In the present thesis the in vitro repair of a human topoisomerase I cleavage complex was investigated. It was found that a second human topoisomerase I molecule can recognize such a cleavage complex and that this is stimulated by the tumor suppressor protein p53. It was suggested that this may represent the first step in a repair of the human topoisomerase I cleavage complex through recombination.
