Abstract

Provisional dental crown and bridge materials (PCB) are intermediate solutions prior to long term restorations. They are aimed to rehabilitate the normal function and health of the dentition and its surrounding tissues. Provisional restorations may be required for two to six weeks or even longer. A substantial progress in PCB material development is today leading to PCB materials with improved properties, suitable also for the long term use in patients. The purpose of this study was to assess market leading Bis-Acryl and polyvinylethylmethacrylate-based PCB materials in terms of long term physical performance. The study investigated correlations between polish retention after toothbrush abrasion in terms of different finishing and polishing protocols, Vickers hardness, water absorption, smear layer thickness and filler configuration of PCB materials.
