Nachhaltigkeit argumentativ.

Fairness, Gleichheit (bzgl.
  • Arguments supporting discursive claims play an important role in discourse analyses of socially negotiated issues such as sustainability and ecology. This article, which focuses on a central aspect of the large-scale diachronic study by Schwegler (2018), outlines a discourse-linguistic approach to the identification of arguments and values, differentiating argument groups in terms of content or topic instead of analysing them formally on a micro- or macro-level. Based on a frame-semantic approach, the study goes beyond an argumentation analysis at an intermediate level of abstraction. This reveals, even for supposedly consensual discourses, how conflicts are hidden within central argumentative terms. The argument groups identified, such as JUSTICE, are not genuinely specific to certain discourses. What turns out to be specific, however, are the combinations of related values, i. e. the types or forms of justice which are associated with the argument in question. In the context of sustainability and ecology in Germany, they can be categorised with regard to fairness, equality (in terms of environmental justice or procedural justice), global equality, cosmic justice (fate), reciprocity and utilitarianism among others. When they occur in opposition to each other in discourse, they contain the potential for conflict.
