Two additive quartic forms

Abstract

A conjecture of Artin suggests that systems of r forms of degree k with integral coefficients in n variables should have a nontrivial p-adic zero when n>rk^2. In this thesis we prove that pairs of diagonal forms of degree 4 in 49 or more variables have a nontrivial 2-adic zero. Nach einer Vermutung von Artin sollten Systeme aus r Formen vom Grad k mit ganzzahligen Koeffizienten in n Variablen eine nichttriviale p-adische Nullstelle besitzen, wenn n>rk^2 gilt. In dieser Arbeit wird gezeigt, dass Paare diagonaler Formen vom Grad 4 eine nichttriviale 2-adische Nullstelle besitzen, wenn die Variablenzahl mindestens 49 ist.
