Zusammenfassung

The paper deals with the question of how to conceive the objects of belief. It emphasizes its epistemological importance, defends to conceive these objects as semantic contents, characterizes such contents as sets of doxastic alternatives, and explains them in an individualistic way as narrow contents. It claims moreover that doxastic alternatives (and thus narrow contents) need structure: they do not consist only of a possible world, or of a possible world, a subject, and a time (as required for the representation of belief de se and de nunc); they must rather contain a (finite) sequence of objects, too. It offers three arguments for this claim and points to some fundamental philosophical consequences of it.
