Implementing the use of clinical guidelines is a complex process influenced by multiple factors. Identifying the potential barriers to the adoption and recommendation of guidelines is an important approach for guiding the development of efficient strategies to improve not only local acceptance of guidelines but also promotion of adherence to clinical guidelines in practice. Our study explores an area that was scarcely addressed in previous research and has been sub optimally addressed in clinical guidelines communities. We focus on the Arab world perspective through discussion of the results of a survey that explored the factors that hindered the implementation of guidelines in 2 countries of the Arab world. The findings of the survey are contrasted to findings from the western countries with lots of similarities and unique differences.
Group activities will follow the presentation in which participants will address the identified barriers.
The objectives of the workshop are: explore the barriers to guideline implementation in the Arab world, brainstorm strategies for adoption and interventions for implementation, link the implementation of guidelines to the quality improvement in health care systems as well as residents' education.
