Background: The neglected tropical diseases (NTDs) are a group of fourteen chronic disabling infections that sometimes kill and often disfigure sick children. Increasing awareness about neglected tropical diseases, their global impact, and the availability of oral drug treatments is an essential step in controlling these diseases in rare cases in Bosnia and Herzegovina, too.
Aims: Despite the huge impact of neglected tropical diseases worldwide, the ability to treat them is largely unknown in the general medical community, and there is little public awareness of and response to this problem.
Methods: The 14 parasitic and bacterial infections known as the neglected tropical diseases include three soil-transmitted helminth infections (ascariasis, hookworm infection, and trichuriasis), lymphatic filariasis, onchocerciasis, dracunculiasis, schistosomiasis, Chagas' disease, human African trypanosomiasis, leishmaniasis, Buruli ulcer, leprosy, trachoma and include dengue fever. We summarized clinical manifestations, patterns of infection, and current means of diagnosis, treatment, and other control options in rare cases of children during last twenty years in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Results: Adverse drug event reporting was poor. Children and those were roots from tropical countries or temporary living in tropical areas with limited access to effective health care are most vulnerable NTDs and their consequences, such as malnutrition, anemia, serious or permanent disability (including blindness), illness, and death.
Discussion: Drug-resistant infections have been a feature of the ongoing competition between humans or children and infectious agents all over the world.
Conclusions: Drug and vaccine manufacturers from so-called innovative developing countries are assisting partnerships in their efforts to develop new products to control neglected tropical diseases. To catalyze the integration of measures in order to control neglected tropical diseases, a group of partnerships that are committed to combatting the all 14 of these diseases are cooperating with each other and Bosnia and Herzegovina, too, in the Global Network for Neglected Tropical Diseases.
