Abstract:

Maintaining the competitive edge is one of the core tasks of an enterprise. Sophi- sticated requirements and the rising complexity of products make that increasingly difficult. One key ingredient for coping with these challenges is the systematic deve- lopment of (innovative) products. Value Methodology (VA and VE) is a proven tool to holisticly optimize Product and Processes, organized around the work plan after EN12973.
Core of the systematic development with this work plan are it’s phases 4 and 5. The analysis of problems and the conception of solution alternatives takes place in their context. Both phases are characterized by potential for further systematization of their approach. Both phases also represent the two areas, where the Theory of Inventive Problem Solving (TRIZ / TIPS) provides very capable instruments.
The main goal of this thesis is to develop a concept to integrate and combine different methods of TRIZ and Value Methodology for use in Value-Studies. Within the scope of methodical preconsiderations, different attempts for the TRIZ-Evolution-Analysis are combined into a unified concept. Elements included are the laws of evolution, trends of evolution and the Technology-S-Curve. Additionaly, TRIZ is reviewed in regard to potential uses in cost-saving contexts. One result of that review is the deve- lopment of creativity-enhancing cost-saving-questions. Another result is the proposal to use the Root Conflict Analysis (RCA+) in the context of Cost-Cause-Analysis. The RCA+ can help here, to establish transparency regarding chains and neuralgic joints of cost causes. Finally, the Value Methodology was extended by a simple method for deriving component target costs, starting from a defined function potential.
The standardized way, in which the different methods are described, is the founda- tion of the integration. A method description provides a holistic presentation and provides facilities for easing the decision to apply it, simplifying the practical use and supporting its moderation. In total 27 different method descriptions were gene- rated. Different methods from Value Methodology and TRIZ are incorporated into 27 method descriptions in total.
Summing up, this dissertation integrates classical VE-Methods like a Function Tree, Function Cost Analysis as well as TRIZ-methods like Root Conflict Analysis, Trim- ming and Contradiction Analysis. The method descriptions ease the application of the generated concepts including the decision about applying which method under which circumstances. Finally, a subset of the different methods were demonstrated in a practical example. This dissertation lays the foundation for an effective combina- tion of Value Engineering and TRIZ and thereby illustrates how their combination can increase the effiency within a Value Engineering project.
