Heitor Villa-Lobos Images im englisch- und französischsprachigen Raum bis zu seinem Tod

Abstract

Diese Dissertation setzt sich mit den Images des brasilianischen Komponisten Heitor Villa-Lobos (1887-1959) und deren Entstehung auseinander - hauptsächlich in den USA und Frankreich, wo er sich für längere Zeiträume aufhielt und musikalisch wirkte. Die Images sind Beschreibungen der individuellen und kollektiven Eindrücke, deren Entstehung Heitor Villa-Lobos durch seine Selbstdarstellung und die Thematik seiner Kompositionen auslöste. Sie wurden in der Öffentlichkeit durch die Medien geformt und verbreitet. Die Analyse der politischen Situation in den jeweiligen betrachteten Ländern sowie deren bilaterale Interaktion mit Brasilien spielen als Komponenten für die Imageentwicklung eine wichtige Rolle, um das Verständnis über die Entstehung der Images überhaupt zu ermöglichen. Auch das Wirken der Lebensgefährtin des Komponisten, Arminda Villa-Lobos (1907-1985), in der Öffentlichkeit wird untersucht und als ein weiterer wichtiger Aspekt der Imagebildung verstanden.

This dissertation deals with the images of the Brazilian composer Heitor Villa-Lobos (1887-1959) and how they were created - mainly in the USA and France, where he stayed for long periods and worked musically. The images are descriptions of the individual and collective impressions that were developed based on his self-presentation and the themes of his compositions. They were shaped and disseminated to the public through the media. The analysis of the political situation in the respective countries as well as their bilateral interaction with Brazil play an important role as components for the development of the images in order to enable an understanding of how the images are formed in the first place. The work of the composer's companion, Arminda Villa-Lobos (1907-1985), in public is also examined and understood as another important aspect of the image formation.

Esta tese busca examinar as imagens do compositor brasileiro Heitor Villa-Lobos (1887-1959) bem como o processo de surgimento dessas imagens, sobretudo nos Estados Unidos e na França, onde o compositor atuou por longos períodos. As imagens são descrições das impressões individuais e coletivas que o compositor originou através da sua autopromoção e da temática das obras compostas por ele, que foram formadas e divulgadas pelos meios de comunicação impressos. A análise da situação política nos países de atuação de Villa-Lobos, bem como a interação bilateral entre França e Estados Unidos com o Brasil possibilitaram uma contribuição decisiva para o entendimento do surgimento e compreensão das Imagens de Villa-Lobos nessa dissertação. A atuação da companheira do compositor Arminda Villa-Lobos (1907-1985) na vida pública também foi objeto de análise pela relevância da formação das imagens do compositor.
