Abstract

In the Ph.D. thesis 'Sprachliche Innovation - lokale Ursachen und globale Wirkungen' with the subtitle 'Das Dynamische Sprachnetz' at first a model is constructed which describes aspects of language change. One of its foundations is the theory of dynamic graphs. Another foundation is the dynamics on the graph. The mathematical methods are laid out thoroughly. Some new observations are explained, particularly how a classical means for the quantitative description of language change, the well known Piotrovskij law, can be found in the framework of the new theory. In contrast to the classical methods, however, the new method can also treat reversible language change. In order to verify the model it was implemented in a simulation. The result of such a simulation was compared to a sufficiently big set of data, already previously in use in Oldenburg, data concerning German loanwords in the Polish language. As a result, the real data and the data predicted by the model agree to a very good, statistically valid extent.
