Abstract

Nature, man and „balance of nature“. A reconstruction of the views of students and scientists.

Anyone who wants to teach environmental topics is faced with the didactic challenge of bringing scientific concepts and ethical aspects into a reflected relationship with each other. After all, research on conceptual-change has shown that students often don’t understand these concepts. The main reason for this is that preconceptions are not taken into account. This is the starting point of the study, which is conducted within the framework of Educational Reconstruction. The research analyses views of scientists and students on the significance of balance of nature and dynamics in ecological systems including ethical implications. The results lead to five didactic guidelines. They recommend to discuss and reflect conceptions of balance in biology lessons even though they do not play a significant role in current scientific research on ecology. Suitable examples, which also consider the normative dimension, are chosen so that the learners have a chance to gain a better understanding of concepts of balance and imbalance. Spatial and temporal changes of perspectives should be conducted.
