Abstract

For several decades, the digitalisation of work and society has led to a continuously demand for IT specialists. For those specialist, further trainings are necessary, which should be offered as part time studies.

Within the new vocational qualifications for DQR levels 5-7, which were introduced in 2020 - the Certified Occupational Specialist, Bachelor Professional and Master Professional - there is a need to design these continuing education qualifications in a quality-assured and meaningful way in terms of content. In its results, the dissertation aims to offer impulses for the design of the before mentioned vocational qualifications.

In the theory part, the thesis introduces the areas of the development of work and the influence of computerisation on society and work, the organisational perspectives within IT in the context of traditional and agile methods, as well as the IT labour market, with its framework conditions and competence requirements.

The empirical part of the thesis contains two phases. In the first phase, the study of the requirements and expectations of and perceptions of continuing education programmes for professionally trained IT specialists is researched from the perspectives of IT specialists, employers and education providers. Those results shape the organisational and requirements framework for defined trainings. The second phase focus on an analysis of the current working world in the IT sector. This analysis has been realised as a mixed-method analysis and contrasts companies and workplaces from the IT sector in the presentation of results. The results of the second phase focus on the representation of the working behaviour within the IT and show their high demands in the area of technology and commercial knowledge, as well as their strong incorporation of experiential knowledge into everyday working behaviour. The results from theory and empirical studies model the basis for the derivation of continuing vocational training measures against the background of the changed part time training opportunities for IT specialists.

Finally, the continuing education measures are presented and described in the form of practice-oriented in-depth studies. The work concludes with recommendations for further research and necessary detailed evaluations.
