Chancen und Risiken interkultureller Kompetenzförderung durch Kindermedien: Eine Untersuchung am Beispiel eines interaktiven Reisehörspiels für Vorschulkinder

  • Openness, understanding, appreciation and acceptance - aren't these all qualities we want to foster in children? Summarized under the term intercultural competence, this paper elaborates on the opportunities and risks involved in attempting to promote such competence. This is done by analyzing an interactive preschool childrens‘ audio play about traveling. The opportunities and risks identified in the analysis are finally applied to the question of this work. It turns out that the attempt to promote intercultural competence bears the risk of promoting contradictory competences such as demarcation and the creation of prejudices. This can be counteracted by dealing with the risks in a mindful and conscious manner and above all by focusing not only on the cultural aspect and instead teaching diversity as normality.
